THIS summer will see the opening of The Lake District’s newest holiday park, dubbed as “an experience like no other” by the brains behind the idea to transform the disused Blencowe Quarry site at Newbiggin.

Leisure Resorts, the developer behind the aptly-named Ullswater Heights due to its proximity to England’s second largest lake and a short drive from Penrith, say the park is scheduled to open in July.

It’s just 13 months since work began to transform the site and so far plans have hit the deadline. They intend for it to be open in time for the peak of the popular summer season.

With three five-star graded parks already in their portfolio – including Lakesway in south Cumbria, the company is proving to be one of the biggest investors in the UK holiday park market.

Leisure Resorts director Grant Gidman said: “Leisure Resorts is about challenging the market and dispelling the misconception that holiday parks cannot be luxurious.

"The opening of our fourth park speaks volumes and demonstrates that we continue to exceed expectations, providing first-class customer service in a five-star setting. Since inception, we’ve grown phenomenally; now employing in excess of 130 people across our three existing parks recruiting from our doorsteps where possible.

“The opening of Ullswater Heights this July marks a watershed moment in our embryonic history.

"As the first park we’ve created from the ground up, this park will truly be built in our vision - one that’s designed to wow, a new holiday park concept which we hope will push boundaries and take the industry to the next level.”

Fully landscaped, built around the banks of its very own lake and nestled among nearly 60 acres of picturesque countryside that Cumbria is so famous for, a massive £20m is being spent on transforming the former industrial site.

Guests will be able to choose from holidays and short breaks in no fewer than 75 hand-picked lodges, and for those who prefer to camp with a twist, a secluded glamping village is also planned.

Featuring ten deluxe Safari Tents, each will be topped off with private decking and steamy hot tubs, allowing every guest to embrace the great outdoors whatever the weather.

Grant added:: “In addition to our holiday offering, we’re making a hand-picked selection of just 25 holiday homes pitches available for purchase. With demand for holiday home ownership at an all-time high, especially at the luxury end of the market, we’re anticipating demand to be high.”

“We’re also keen to work with other tourism businesses too, directing our guests to nearby attractions to help make Cumbria’s £2.9bn tourism economy even stronger.

"We’re also hiring local people to staff the new park and will take on around 40 people to look after the park and our guests when we open in July.

“It’s also not just about being based in a location that makes it easy to visit great destinations, but to actually be in a great destination for the entire duration of the break. That’s our goal; and we’re very excited to say we’re well on the way to achieving it.”
