Creative moustaches helped workers on the Sellafield site raise over £1,200 for a cancer charity.

Team members at Jacobs Field Services took part in a 'Grow a mo for your bro' competition throughout November.

Winner Pat Gilmore and health and safety manager Chris Thompson handed over the money to Prostate Cancer UK.

Mr Thompson said: "The Jacobs Field Services team wanted to raise awareness of prostate cancer by getting involved with the Movember challenge.

"The construction team, which is predominantly male, wanted to give everyone a greater understanding of the disease, which affects one in eight men.

"Health and safety team members were challenged with finding out the statistics and producing a presentation that could be delivered company wide.

"The biggest challenge was growing a moustache for 30 days but everyone involved put up with the itching, which ultimately was well worth it when the donations started coming in."

Female staff members helped out with the fundraising by holding a cake sale. The total donated was £1,265.10.

"The event was driven by the blue collar teams," said Mr Thompson. "The awareness they have raised throughout November and into the rest of the year has been nothing short fantastic.

"Everyone from the lads involved, the ladies who held a cake sale to the management team, who also got involved, are proud of this initiative."

Eleanor French, operations lead for Jacobs Field Services, judged the competition, with Mr Gilmore coming first and Vince Walker in second.
