Workington MP Sue Hayman has given a helping hand to Royal Mail workers who are busily sorting and delivering the Christmas post.

Labour MP Mrs Hayman visited Cockermouth Delivery Office early on Friday morning to meet some of the workers dealing with the festive post.

The Royal Mail delivers 149 million parcels over the festive period – more than all of its competitors combined – as well as mountains of cards, and Christmas is the busiest time of year.

Mrs Hayman said: “Our post men and women work long hours in all weathers at this time of year, making sure all our cards and presents get delivered in time for Christmas.

“I wanted to say a big thank you for all their hard work, so I went to the delivery office for the morning rush and tried to give them some support.”
