Firefighters were called to reports of a building fire at Southwaite.
Crews from Carlisle West Fire Station and Penrith Fire Station attended at about 7pm to find it was contained in the chimney.
The fire was extinguished and a thermal imaging camera used to check for any hot spots.
No one was injured as a result of the fire but officers advised the occupants to have the chimney swept and checked by a builder.
