Here at the News & Star we asked readers to tell us the best place to buy a Christmas tree in Cumbria.

1: MAPA TREES, WETHERAL

The Christmas tree farm, at Brackenbank, was recommended to us by Barbie Ellis on our Facebook page.

She said: “Got one from here last year for £25, 6ft and it was the best tree I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back again this year.”

Leanne Clifford Bell added: “Mapa Trees, cut the tree down on the day.

“Can’t get any fresher. Beautiful trees.”

2: HOLEBECK FARM, CLEATOR MOOR

News & Star reader Alison Scott was one of several people to recommend the Christmas trees at Holebeck Farm, based in the west of the county at Cleator Moor.

Paul Seager posted: “Great trees from a local farmer.”

Victoria Beck said: “Holebeck Farm have the most beautiful trees and delicious sloes.”

On Twitter, user @cjdoc posted: “Quality, well-shaped trees.

“No price increase this year and they’ll deliver locally.

“Fella that sells them is a gentleman.”

Another user on Twitter, Paul White, added: “Fantastic trees and service.”

3: MOORHOUSE FARM, CARLISLE

The farm, owned by the Normal Family, was put forward by Jenny Carlile.

She said: “There’s only one place - Christmas trees at Moorhouse.”

Michelle Dunning added: “Moorhouse, excellent trees, wouldn’t go anywhere else now.”

Mark Baker said: “Friendly service. Made it fun for the kids and not too expensive with varied size options to suit every boot.”

Ellen Wilson added: “Definitely Christmas trees at Moorhouse.

“Fantastic quality and cheap.”

John McDowall said: “I get my tree at Moorhouse every year.

“Cheaper and great quality!”

4: BOONWOOD GARDEN CENTRE, GOSFORTH

The garden centre, at Gosforth, near Seascale, was recommended by several News & Star readers on Facebook.

Zoe Costelloe said: “Obviously Boonwood Garden Centre, Gosforth.”

Kay Mossop added: “They only sell top quality trees and the service is excellent.”

Robert and Paula Evans said: “Top quality trees - nothing but the best.

“The people and service are 100 per cent.”

5: BLAITHWAITE HOUSE, WIGTON

Nestled in the countryside, Blaithwaite House, near Wigton, won praise from one reader for the quality of their trees.

Kate Glen-Donald posted: “Fantastic, high-quality trees kept in water (from the same supplier as Whinlatter, and they raise money for CFM’s Cash for Kids too).

“It is a family run business and we make the kids feel special and give them a chocolate lolly!

“Our fourth year and we love it.”

Sonia Charters added: “Blaithwaite House have a fantastic selection of trees, while also supporting CFM’s cash for kids with over 40 stalls.”
