POLICE are urgently appealing for more information to help in their search for a Dearham man who has been missing for two weeks.

James Miller, known locally as Jimmy, was last seen in the post office in Ellenborough, Maryport, just after 4pm on November 24.

The 45-year-old enjoys walking and police - joined by mountain rescuers, - have searched areas he might have gone, as well as the area around his home in Towncroft.

No further leads or vital pieces of information have been found in recent days and officers need more information to help them in their search.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Smith said: "We will base future searches on new information as and when it comes in, whether that's from family, friends or anonymous members of the public - we just need that information. We are really struggling to get current, corroborative information through - ie it's from more than one person confirming where he has been or where he had been sighted."

DCI Smith said Mr Miller does not have a car and regularly uses public transport.

The force is continuing to appeal to taxi drivers who may have seen him the day he went missing, when they know he used at least one taxi.

The inspector continued: "We have no information at all to suggest there is any criminal aspect to it. He is missing from home and we are trying to locate him and make sure he is looked after and safeguarded as soon as we can.

"We are just not getting the key points or the key bits of information through that we would normally expect."

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team have been involved with the search operation and DCI Smith said drone technology has been used to cover the more remote areas.

He added: "Every available resource or asset that we can use, we will. But it's the appeal for information that is key."

Contact police on 101 with any information.
