A CARLISLE bar and restaurant has come up with a novel way of helping those in need this Christmas by donating £2 from every good will burger sold to the Carlisle Foodbank.

Spider & Fly at Stanwix decided to help by creating a special Christmas burger.

The Good Will Burger, created by chef Ian Wightman, is turkey mince with cranberry and Wensleydale cheese, pigs in blankets, stuffing and cranberry sauce. It is served with hand cut chips and gravy and costs £12.95.

Alex Murrell, from the Spider & Fly, said: "Since it has gone on the menu it has been very well received.

"We got a good deal from David Jenkins at Pioneer on the turkey mince and so we decided to give £2 to the Carlisle Foodbank.

"It's nice to give something back especially at this time of year when the weather is poor. I think when you're young Christmas is all about the presents but when you get older you think a bit more about what it means and helping thos less fortunate is a good thing to do."

The burger will be on the menu until January 1.
