CARLISLE firefighters have moved to reassure residents after a training exercise was carried out on Wednesday night.
Several crew from the Carlisle West Community Fire Station, Brookside, carried out water rescue search training along the River Caldew between 7pm and 8.30pm.
A spokesman said: "The crew carried out a training exercise to look for casualties in the water between Denton Holme and Currock."
Concerns were raised on social media after firefighters were spotted with torches in the river near Bousteads Grassing Recycling Centre on Rome Street.
