A Met Office weather warning for wind has been extended to last until 5pm today.

Storm Diana rolled into Cumbria yesterday, with wind gusts of up to 89mph recorded in some parts.

The Met Office is predicting much of the same today. A spokesman said: “We are looking at a wet and windy feel this morning.

“You can expect further strong winds, with a weather warning in place until 2pm.

“There will be similar wind gusts, about 60-70mph, with a small chance of 80mph gusts.

“Again the rain will clear into the afternoon and it will be brighter and more showery, not quite as windy but still blustery.

“Going into the weekend, Friday will be another day of sun and showers, but still quite blustery winds.

“Saturday could be a bit dryer, with lighter winds as well. It could feel fresher, with further rain expected on Sunday.”
