A Cumbrian 'miracle' boy hopes to spread some cheer this Christmas, and give back to those who helped him.

Noah Wall, who lives with his family near Wigton, is paralysed from the chest down, having been born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus (water on the brain).

Despite fears from doctors and his parents after being given little to no chance of survival, he was born at Newcastle's RVI Hospital with two per cent of his brain functioning.

Last year, after months of saving his pocket money to buy toys for poorly children in one of the wards, Noah dressed up as an elf and delivered the gifts.

On December 13, the six-year-old will don his elf costume once again, but this time, hopes to go one better with his delivery.

His idea to deliver hampers to hospital staff this Christmas was inspired by the work of Nigel Richardson from Secret Hamper, who found 70 Essex businesses to sponsor a sharing hamper for £70 for a local hospital, to celebrate 70 years of the NHS earlier this year.

Nigel will be organising the sponsorship of each hamper, with Noah and his family having the honour of delivering them.

Shelly Wall, Noah's mum, told the News & Star: "After handing gifts out to the children on the ward last year, we thought we'd go one better this year.

"It's nice to give something back to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the RVI, and we'd love as many Cumbrian businesses to sponsor one of the 70 hampers for £70 each.

"Please contact Nigel if you would like to get involved."

Nigel Richardson from Secret Hamper, said: "We originally thought of the NHS70 idea while watching TV, where the programme was celebrating 70 years of the NHS.

"We floated the idea on our social media pages to look for 70 Essex businesses to sponsor a sharing hamper.

"It's a small price to pay to show our appreciation for 70 years of care.

"Once we had all 70 hampers sponsored, we delivered them to our local hospital in August as a way of saying thank you to all the staff that create magic and miracles on a daily basis.

"We were overwhelmed with the response from our local business community and within three weeks had all 70 sponsored.

"Businesses that supported our NHS70 initiative were offered to nominate a specific ward if they wished, plus we included a personalised message in each box so the recipients knew which company had sent it.

"On the day of delivery, the hampers were distributed among the wards and offices and over 2,000 staff were touched by the show of appreciation.

"We received many emails from NHS staff saying it made their day and created a massive buzz around the hospital."

The successful event prompted Nigel to set a new goal of 70 hospitals nationwide.

"Noah's mum and I are both previous winners in Theo Paphitis's twitter competition that runs every week, and although we've not met in person, we have spoken on the phone, email and via social media.

"Over a year ago, we donated a hamper to a fundraising night Noah was having at Newcastle United. Since then, I've always followed Noah as he's such an inspirational young man.

"When Noah heard of the idea to replicate what we did for other hospitals, he asked his mummy if he could help us deliver the 70 hampers along with his gifts."

A GoFundMe page has been set up for businesses and individuals to sponsor a hamper.
