The family of a man who died in a collision on Saturday night said his death has left a hole in their hearts that no one will every be able to fill.

Alan Johnston, 30, of Millom was driving a BMW on the A5093 at The Hill on Saturday at around 11.35pm when he was involved in a collision with another BMW.

His parents, grandad and sister Shannon have issued a tribute. They said: “Our sweet Alan, your time in this world was taken far too soon. There’s a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.

“We will love and miss you today, tomorrow and always.”

Mr Johnston's close friend Tasha and her and Mr Johnston’s daughter Kadie also paid tribute.

They said: “You’ve left a hole in our hearts that no one will ever be able to replace.

“We love you to the moon and back, now and always.”

Tributes have also been left at the crash scene.

Mr Johnston died at the scene while two others were flown to the Royal Preston Hospital where their condition was described as serious but stable.

Five other people were also treated at Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash.
