SMOKE could be seen billowing into the air as firefighters tackled a blaze at a building in Carlisle.
Two crews were called to Brampton Road, where the old Boys Brigade hut - near to the tennis club - was well alight on Saturday.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said no one was injured as a result of the fire but the inside of the building suffered extensive damage.
It is not believe to be suspicious but possibly due to an electrical fault in the property.
A painter and decorator who was on his way to work raised the alarm, as did other residents living nearby, at about 7.30am.
Six firefighters used breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.
They were in attendance for about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
