A BURGLAR who travelled into Cumbria to commit crime, thinking the county was 'an easy target', has been jailed for 16 months.

Joshua Faley, 23, of Jordan Crescent, Rotherham, had targeted three quadbikes from farm outbuildings in Tebay.

But he is now starting a jail sentence following an investigation by Cumbria officers, which also saw the quad bikes recovered.

Faley appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday, November 14, where he admitted two counts of burglary, carried out on February 9, 2017.

The judge in the case, The Honourable Mr Justice William Davis, said there had been "obvious planning" in the case.

He added: “You clearly think Cumbria is an easy target.

“There is no alternative to immediate custody.”

Speaking afterwards, Detective Constable Lauren Carruthers welcomed the sentence.

She added: “Cumbria’s isolated and rural communities can fall victim to theft and burglaries carried out by criminals travelling from outside the county.

“Cumbria Constabulary takes this type of crime extremely seriously.

“Officers and staff have been running a number of multi-agency operations to target this type of offending.

“We certainly are not an easy target.

“This type of sentence shows burglars who think they are coming for an easy day out in Cumbria they face a lengthy spell in jail.”
