A MAN who was caught driving over the legal limit has been banned from the road for 16 months.

Stefano Zazzaro, 30, was seen by police as they patrolled on the A6 at Eamont Bridge on October 28.

The court heard that officers saw his Ford Focus make a sudden deviation, prompting them to pull him over.

He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the police station where the test confirmed he had 59mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Defence lawyer Rachel Dixon said it was “extremely out of character for him to drink alcohol at all” and he was “extremely disappointed” at what had happened.

The 30-year-old of Maple Drive, Penrith, has no previous convictions and the judge recognised that he was a man of previous good character.

District Judge Gerald Chalk fined him £390 and ordered him to pay £85 costs as well as a £39 victim surcharge.

The defendant was also given the option to take a drink driving rehabilitation course to reduce his ban by a quarter.
