A liquor store has announced an opening date for its new shop where it will launch a new brand of gin called Carlisle Gin.

The House of Malt is moving from its current premises on Crosby Street to the former Lloyds Pharmacy shop at the corner of Warwick Road and Cecil Street on Saturday, November 24.

A spokesman for the House of Malt said: "Every great city has its own gin, and now our Great Border City has one too. Carlisle Gin the Original has been created by Carlisle folk with Carlisle folk in mind.

"Our premium Carlisle Dry Gin is a traditionally made juniper forward gin, using fresh spring water from the Eden Valley to compliment its simple, well balanced smooth finish."

The shop is taking pre-orders at a discounted price of £29.99.

The spokesman added: "The official launch will be combined with our new store opening on November 24. Batch one will be a limited number, so pre-ordering is advised, and collection can be on the day of our new store opening."

The move will mean the shop will be able to expand its range of specialist whiskies, wines and gins in a dedicated "liquor store".

It will also have a glass floor and a dedicated tasting room.

It reveals the latest sign of rising demand for specialist drinks in the north of the county in the wake of a boom in craft beer and gin sellers.

It will host a special evening at The Winter Spa, at the neighbouring Halston hotel, on November 30 at 7.30pm.

A spokesman for The Winter Spa added: "After the huge success of our gin tasting and skincare event with co-hosts House Of Malt and Germaine de Capuccini we're doing it again! Same format as last time, four gins and one mystery drink (with each drink tasted twice) and an informative talk about what makes each drink so special.

"As well, we'll be doing skincare and make up demonstrations in between drinks with special offers on all products and services booked on the night.

"Like last time, nibbles and condiments are all included along with the craft tonics to mix your gins with."

Tickets, which cost £25, should be booked in advance.
