A woman has been handed a driving ban after being found guilty of getting behind the wheel with excess alcohol in her system.

Ashleigh Atkinson, 24, of Montreal Close, Cleator Moor, drove a Skoda Fabia on Sneakyeat Grove, Whitehaven, on June 30.

A breath test revealed she had 59mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Atkinson was found guilty of the offence after a trial at West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Workington.

She was given a 16-month driving ban.

She was also ordered to pay a £180 fine, £310 costs and a £30 surcharge.

Atkinson admitted failing to surrender to custody at the court. She was given no separate penalty for the offence.
