Police investigating a report of an attempted abduction in West Cumbria have concluded their investigations.
Cumbria police revealed on Saturday that they were investigating a report of a man trying to abduct a 10-year-old girl in Main Street, Allonby.
The report said there had been a struggle between the pair before the man made off, leaving the child uninjured.
But now police have revealed that they have concluded their investigations, and are satisfied that the incident did not take place.
A force spokesman said: "Following extensive enquiries and diligent investigation work involving a number of officers, including the examination of CCTV footage, detectives have concluded there is no evidence such an offence has taken place.
"Officers have been successful in identifying and speaking with all relevant parties who have subsequently been ruled out of any wrongdoing. As a result no suspicions remain relating to this report, which may have been a genuine misunderstanding reported in error.
"Cumbria police take this type of report extremely seriously and officers would like to thank the local community for their diligence and patience while the officers carried out their investigation."
