Police in Cumbria are investigating two separate incidents in which children have been bitten by dogs.

In Carlisle a young girl was bitten by a dog outside St Paul's Medical Centre in Sycamore Lane, Parklands, at around 11am today.

Elsewhere, a young boy has an injured left hand in Millom after being bitten by a large dog whilst taking part in an after-school club.

A report from Cumbria Constabulary states that the incident happened at around 4pm yesterday in the area of St James' School field near to Albert Street and Furness Street.

In both cases police are trying to trace the owners.

Carlisle police say the dog involved in the Sycamore Lane incident is described as a terrier cross and is black.

The force says the owner of the dog was present but left the scene before any details were provided.

The man is described as white. He left the area in a black car, possibly a Vauxhall Astra or similar.

No further details about the girl's condition or her injuries have been released by Cumbria Police at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the owner are asked to make contact with Cumbria Police on 101, quoting log 105 of 2nd October 2018.

In Millom, police want to locate the dog and identify its owner.

The dog is described as black with a white patch on its front, possibly a Labrador type or similar.

The male believed to be with the dog is described as bald, with a limp and wearing a dark hoody or jacket with the hood up.
