A pensioner who had been missing since the weekend has been found dead on a West Cumbrian beach.

The family of 71-year-old Norman Renney, of Workington, have paid tribute to a "true gentleman".

Mr Renney, who had limited mobility, was last seen in Brook Street, Workington, on Saturday evening.

Appeals for information about his whereabouts were being circulated by concerned family members on social media.

Police also issued a formal missing person's appeal.

Officers were called to Flimby beach at 9.36am today.

They confirmed that the body of a man had been found.

He has now been formally identified as Mr Renney. His family have since paid tribute to the popular pensioner.

They said: “Norman was the best father, grandfather and great grandfather.

"He was a true gentleman and will be missed by all his family and friends.”

Police said Mr Renney's death is not being treated as suspicious.
