A national cafe chain has opened a new branch at Workington's Dunmail Park.

Costa Coffee officially opened its doors today at the family-run shopping centre off Maryport Road.

This is the second branch of the chain to open in the town, after its Washington Square branch opened in 2005.

A spokesman for Costa said the opening was a success.

She added: "As the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand, we’re delighted to have opened a brand new Costa store in Dunmail Park, creating new jobs in the area. The store team are looking forward to being an active part of the local community, getting involved in fundraising and local events, and providing the store as a meeting place.”

The store opening created around 10 new jobs.

The chain first came to Cumbria in 1998, when it opened an outlet in Carlisle city centre.

It has since grown to have three shops in the city, with a fourth in development.

There are others in Ambleside, Barrow, Kendal, Keswick, Penrith, Ulverston, Whitehaven and Windermere.
