Plans to convert part of a Cockermouth house for business use look set to be approved, despite opposition from neighbours.

Adele Holmes wants to formally turn two rooms at 20 Laithwaite House, Cockermouth, into formal treatment rooms for Cockermouth Chiropody/Podiatry, which she already runs from the property.

Allerdale council has received eight letters from neighbours concerned about the proposal.

They have raised concerns about road safety and the volume of traffic using the street, which they say is already busy and falling into disrepair.

Concerns have also been raised about a public right of access to the disused railway line, which crosses the driveway at the property.

They are worried about the possibility of weekend and evening working at the property and its impact on neighbours' amenity and enjoyment of the area.

Four separate letters have been submitted to the council to express support for or lack of objection to the plan.

Mrs Holmes already runs Cockermouth Chiropody/Podiatry from the house.

Cumbria County Council's highways department has raised no objection to the plan.

Allerdale council planners say the proposal is acceptable as long as only one room is used as a treatment room and the other as a reception area.

They have recommended that the development panel approves the application when it meets at Allerdale House, Workington, at 1pm on Tuesday, April 3.
