A charity set up to help people with mobility problems enjoy the great outdoors has been given a £1,000 boost by a Cockermouth company.

The town's WYG office chose Lake District Mobility as its charity of the year for the last financial year.

Each Friday staff enjoyed a dress down day in exchange for a donation, raising a total of £1,000.

Julia Walker, of Lake District Mobility, said: "The donation from WYG is so gratefully appreciated, not only for what it will do for the charity but also encouragement it gives knowing that the company is behind us and that all the staff are so willing to give each week."

The money, she added, would pay for the charity's office space for the year.

Mrs Walker's husband Murray works for WYG and the firm also provided practical support with setting up the charity.

Simon Sjenitzer, a director at WYG, said: "We are proud supporters of this charity."

Lake District Mobility has supplied all-terrain mobility scooters, called Trampers, to Whinlatter Forest Park.

The Trampers are available for hire, enabling people with limited mobility to enjoy the Lake District along with their family and friends.
