The upside-down layout with the living room providing pleasant views was one of the main drivers behind Megan Graham buying her charming newly-converted barn conversion in a quiet community close to Wigton town centre.

She was also attracted by the light and airy feel to the corner property, plus the huge benefit of it being fully refurbished.

Megan, a trainee solicitor at Cumbrian practice Scott Duff & Co, said: "The light walls and beams give it a cottage feel and, as it has an upside-down layout, the living area feels very spacious with lovely views out over the fields."

The house is one of a collection of converted farm buildings and blends the character of the original building with contemporary fixtures and fittings, all complemented by Megan's tasteful decor.

The renovation work took place two years ago, which was when Megan moved in. The house now features two bedrooms and a wet room on the ground floor with a large sitting/dining room and adjacent kitchen area on the first floor.

Outside is a charming patio garden with flags, chipped borders and decorative fencing plus parking both just beyond the garden and on the other side of a communal drive.

The bedrooms are reached off a ground-floor hallway with exposed ceiling beams and a handy understairs store with shelving.

Both bedrooms have exposed ceiling beams and one has a built-in double cupboard with a window overlooking the front garden while the other has a built-in shelved recess, additional understairs storage and a window to a courtyard.

The smart shower/wet room has a three-piece suite with rainfall shower head, panelled ceiling and fully tiled walls with an electric wall heater.

Upstairs the sitting/dining room is almost 16ft by 24ft and has exposed beams and joist and dual-aspect windows giving vies of the patio garden and the side drive.

The reception room is open to the kitchen area which has wall and floor units in white with solid oak worktops complemented by wood-effect flooring. There is a built-in oven and ceramic hob with canopy above, plumbing for a washing machine and ceiling spotlights.

Megan added: "I haven’t needed to do anything to the house as it was fully refurbished when I purchased it - it even had an appearance on Homes under the Hammer!

"My favourite view is of the sunset over the fields. If you time it right, you can watch the sun come down and the whole rooms fills with the glow of the sunset.

"The house's upside-down layout is a definite attraction, and the dual-aspect windows in the living room which provide the room with such an open feel.

"The garden is good too. It's a nice mix as there is a patio area to sit out on, two parking spaces and also a plot at the bottom which can be used as a flower bed or vegetable patch."

Moving to Spittal Farm was an easy decision for Megan, not just because she liked the house so much but because she has lived in Wigton my whole life and did not want to move away from the town.

"Spittal Farm has been the perfect location as it is a two-minute drive into town or a 10-minute walk back to my parents' house but you feel like you are very much in the countryside away from the town.

"I'm going to miss the views and the location. I think it's hard to find places like this nowadays which feel so private and quiet.

"When I look at new-build estates and compare them to this property, everyone seems so close together which I think is something I would struggle with now I have been spoilt with this property.

"Spittal Farm is a lovely community, you have access to an orchard and communal green and they also have annual parties and quarterly meetings. It's been great living here."
