THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (A685 APPLEBY ROAD, NEAR KENDAL, A684 NEAR SEDBERGH AND A683 NEAR CASTERTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2019

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cumbria Highways to carry out surface dressing works ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along the following lengths of road:-

1. A685 Appleby Road, near Kendal: From its junction with Queen Katherine's Avenue extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx.2.3km.



A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted section of the A685, A683, A684, Main Street, Station Road, Scotch Jeans, Singleton Park Road, Castle Green Road, Sedbergh Road, Castle Street, Ann Street, Wildman Street and Longpool.

2. A684 near Sedbergh: From a point approx.l.7km north west of its junction with the A683 extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 1.6km.



A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted sections of the A684, Castle Green Road, Sedbergh Road, Castle Street, Ann Street, Wildman Street and Longpool, Appleby Road, A685, and A683. 3.A683 near Casterton: From its junction with the C5083 extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx.3km. A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted sections of the A683, A65, Main Street, Burton Road, Lound Road, Kirkland, Highgate, Lowther Street, Aynam Road, Bridge Street, Stramongate, Castle Street, Wildman Street, Ann Street, Sedbergh Road, Castle Green Road, A684andA683

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.Phased works will not necessarily be done in numerical order. Cumbria Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.

Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

1. Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and

2. Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and



3. Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and

The Order will come into operation on I May 2019 and may continue in force for a period of up to eighteen months from that date as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, although it is anticipated that it will only be required for 3 months.
