THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (BACKHOUSES WALK AND BUSH BROW, CARLISLE) [TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2021
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Align Property Partners Ltd to carry out works to demolish 'Paton House' ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) from proceeding along the following lengths of road;
1. Backhouses Walk, Carlisle from its junction with Bush Brow extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 80m; and
2. The entire length of Bush Brow, Carlisle from its junction with Borough Street to its junction with Victoria Viaduct.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available as follows:
North Bound Vehicles: via English Dam side, Borough Street, Court Square Brow, English Street and Victoria Viaduct. South Bound Vehicles: via Victoria Viaduct, Devonshire Street, Lowther Street, Victoria Place, Spencer Street, Warwick Road, The Crescent, English Street, Court Square Brow and Borough Street
A suitable alternative route for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be available via English Damside, Borough Street, Court Square Brow, English Street and Victoria Viaduct. Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
(i) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and
(ii) Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the road, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the road; and
(iii) Apply to delivery vehicles requiring access from Victoria Viaduct to the back of the B&M Store; and
(iv) Vehicles requiring access/egress to and from the car park via Borough Street
(v) Vehicles requiring access/egress to and from business premises on Backhouses Walk, if it is only accessible from Backhouses Walk; and

The Order will come into operation on 4 May 2021 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months, However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will be required for 5 months and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
