PUBLIC INQUIRIES TO BE HELD AS A VIRTUAL EVENT
NOTICE is hereby given that Public Local Inquiries in connection with the Orders mentioned below, will be held by an Inspector appointed for this purpose by the Secretary of State for Transport, and will begin at 10.00am on Monday 14 June 2021. The Inquiries will be held as a virtual event, run by an Inspector in the normal way but with the parties invited to join via Microsoft Teams or telephone.
NOTICE is hereby given that a Pre-lnquiries Meeting will be held as a virtual event beginning at 10.00 am on Monday 26 April 2021 where the Inspector will arrange the timetable for the proceedings in connection with the Orders named below. The right to make representations at the Public Local Inquiries will in no way be prejudiced by the inability to attend or be represented at the Pre-lnquiries Meeting.
The Inquiries are being held to hear representations about the Orders from remaining objectors (as defined in the Compulsory Purchase (Inquiries Procedure) Rules 2007) and statutory objectors (as defined in the Highways (Inquiries Procedure) Rules 1994), from any other persons having an interest in the land the subject of the Compulsory Purchase Order and, at his discretion, to hear representations from any other persons who may desire to appear and be heard.
The Orders have been made by Cumbria County Council under the above-mentioned Acts and submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation and are:
(1) THE CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL (A689 (CARLISLE SOUTHERN LINK ROAD) CLASSIFIED ROAD) (SIDE ROADS AND OTHER WORKS) ORDER 2020. This is an Order under Sections 6,14 and 125 of the Highways Act 1980.
(2) THE CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL (CARLISLE SOUTHERN LINK ROAD) COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2020. This is an Order under Sections 6, 239, 240, 246, 250 and 260 of the Highways Act 1980.
THE ORDERS relate to proposals known as the Carlisle Southern Link Road from the A595/A689 Newby West roundabout south-eastwards for a distance of 8.1 kilometres to Junction 42 of the M6 Motorway, which falls within the parishes of Cummersdale, Dalston, and St Cuthbert Without, in the District of Carlisle and the County of Cumbria.

Anyone wishing to attend the Inquiries and/or at the Inspector's discretion give their views, must make their interest known to the Planning Inspectorate as soon as possible prior to the Inquiry. Please make it clear in your response whether you wish only to appear at the Inquiry, make a statement or whether you would also wish to ask questions on particular topics. Those wishing to join the meeting should contact

PROCEEDINGS on the above-mentioned Orders are being taken concurrently by virtue of Section 257 of the Highways Act 1980.
