THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE CARLISLE AREA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO. I) ORDER 2019

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Highways England to carry out resurfacing, signal renewal and safety improvement works ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule. Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force. Phased works will not necessarily be done in numerical order.

Cumbria Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times. Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

1. Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and



2. Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and



3. Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and



4. Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works.

The Order will come into operation on24June20l9and may continue in force for a period of up to eighteen months from that date as and when the relevant traffic signs are

displayed, although ft is anticipated that it will only be required for approx. I month in total.

SCHEDULE EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

1. Greymoorhill Roundabout and Access/Exit Junctions, Carlisle



(i) Greymoorhill Roundabout over the M6 at Junction 44, for its entirety. There is no alternative route for vehicles.



(ii) M6 Slip Roads, Carlisle



(a) Southbound sliproad onto Greymoorhill Roundabouffor its entire length.



Alternative route for vehicles travelling towards Longtown via M74 Junction 22 (at Gretna), B7076 Glasgow Road, A6071, A7 Longtown.

Alternative route for vehicles travelling towards Carlisle City via M6 Junction 42, A6 (London Road, Botchergate and Devonshire Street) and A7 (Lowther Street,

Victoria Place, Georgian Way, Hardwick Circus, Eden Bridge, Scotland Road and Kingstown Road).

(b) Northbound sliproad onto Greymoorhill Roundabout, for its entire length.



Alternative route for vehicles travelling towards Longtown via M6 Junction 45 (Gretna), A607I and A7.

Alternative route for vehicles travelling towards Carlisle City via M6 Junction 42, A6 (London Road, Botchergate and Devonshire Street) and A7 Longtown (Lowther Street, Victoria Place, Georgian Way, Hardwick Circus, Eden Bridge, Scotland Road and Kingstown Road).

(iii) A7 Kingstown Road and Carlisle Road



(a) A7 Kingstown Road (all carriageways), from its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout for a distance of approx 250m.

Alternative route via unrestricted sections of the A7, A607I and CI 022. fb) A7 Carlisle Road (all carriageways), from its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout for a distance of approx 250m.

Alternative route via CI 022, Parkhouse Road roundabout, A689 sliproad, M6, Junction 45 (Gretna), A607I and unrestricted section of the A7.

(iv) A689, Carlisle From its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout, extending in an easterly direction (both carriageways) for a distance of approx. 250m. Alternative route via A689, A69 and M6 Junction 43 roundabout followed by the relevant diversion route displayed on she.



N.B. vehicles travelling in an easterly/ direction heading northbound will still be able to access the M6 via the A689 sliproad. Durations: 24 June 2019 overnight between 2000 hours and 0600 hours; and

5 consecutive weekends starting 28 June 2019 between the hours of Friday 2000 hours to Saturday 0700 hours, Saturday 1900 hours to Sunday 0700 hours and Sunday 1800 hours to Monday 0300 hours.

2. A7 Carlisle Road, Carlisle From its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout (both carriageways) extending in a northerly direction for approx 250m. Alternative route via unrestricted section of the A7, A6071 and M6 (exiting Junction 44). Duration: 8 July 2019 overnight between 2000 hours and 0600 hours.



3. A689, Carlisle From its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout (both carriageways) extending in an easterly direction for approx 250m. Alternative route via the unrestricted section of the A689, A69, Junction 43 Roundabout M6, and Junction 44 Roundabout



Alternative route for non-motorway vehicles A689, A69 (Junction 43 Roundabout and Warwick Road) and A7 (via Scotland Road and Kingstown Road). Duration: 9 July overnight between 2000 hours and 0600 hours.

4. A7 Kingstown Road, Carlisle



(i) Southbound carriageway only from its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout extending in a southerly direction for approx 300m to its junction with Parkhouse Road. Alternative route via A689 and Parkhouse Road.



Duration: 10 July 2019 overnight between 2000 hours and 0600 hours

(ii) Northbound carriageway only from its junction with Greymoorhill Roundabout extending in a southerly direction for approx 300m to its junction with Parkhouse Road. Alternative route via Parkhouse Road, A689 and Greymoorhill Roundabout



Duration: 11 July 2019 overnight between 2000 hours and 0600 hours
