Sad to learn of George’s recent death.

Simply the best all round talented drummer and cabaret artists that Carlisle has produced.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

And our thanksgiving for his outstanding contribution to jazz, popular music and entertainment throughout Cumbria and further afield including Cornwall.

He will be fondly remembered as a great guy, fun loving and someone with whom it was a real joy to be in the company of.

Back in the day George taught me rudimentary drumming and cymbal strokes; which after 53 years I can still recall. More importantly he was then working at Redmayne’s the tailors in Carlisle when he introduced me to his young colleague Peter. Subsequently Peter and I became lifelong friends. For which we are both eternally grateful to George.

We always enjoyed listening to George playing with the Dave Foster Jazz Quartet, at the Carlisle Cricket Club, and Twisted Wheel. He also played with the Dave Batey Trio, and as a duo with the key board players Colin Sparks (residency at the Hill Top Hotel Carlisle) and Gaston Briac. We especially enjoyed listening to George with his longtime collaborator Ian Alecock in the dynamic duo of Mitch and Mel.

'Pray For Me And I Shall Pray For You And All Your Friends, That We May Merrily Meet In Heaven'. (Sir Thomas More's last letter to his daughter Meg. 1553)

Here’s to halcyon days warmly remembered. Rest in Peace and Le Jazz Hi George!

Alan Walton, Cranleigh, Surrey, and on behalf of Peter Foster, Blaydon-on-Tyne.
