Unisun A send Warwick Wanderers out of cup

Unisun Athletic ‘A’, who reached the County Cup semi-final last season, started off on the cup trail with a convincing 4-0 win over Second Division rivals Warwick Wanderers.

Kevin Campbell created the opener, his floating cross from the left setting up Josh Harding to score in the fifth minute.

Five minutes later Campbell worried the Wanderers’ defence, again finding the bottom corner with a low drive.

Unisun ,who dominated the first half possession, were well on the way to the next round in the 24th minute when a sweeping move left Darren Glynn in the perfect position to drill home from close range.

Wanderers emerged a changed team after the break but Unisun found the net once more in the 75th minute as substitute Jonathan Knott volleyed home from 20 yards.

Pippins pulled off the surprise result of the day, knocking out their Premiership opponents DHCC 5-4. Ryan Gill put them ahead at the turn.

In an exciting second period DHCC squared matters only for Pippins to hit back and go 3-1 up but they were rocked as DHCC raced into a 4-3 lead.

In a late flurry Pippins regained parity and Graham Robley followed up to notch the decider.

Lion & Lamb were also 5-4 victors at UMI Exiles thanks to Matthew Rudd (2), Richard O’Keefe, Philip Green and Philip Graham.

Holders Brampton were 3-1 too good for Wigton Stocksman.

Their scorers were Lee Thompson (2) and Craig Thompson.

Howard Rangers disposed of Pirelli 8-2 after conceding an early goal by Tom Reay.

Aiden Hanley claimed a double hat-trick following his five in the previous round.

Mark Swinglehurst and Craig Wilkinson bagged the others and some great saves by Gordon Steele prevented further goals.

Keeper Jamie Hoskins presented Pirelli with their second goal as he miskicked Jamie Lowe’s back pass.

Gretna SC overwhelmed Carlisle Spartans 7-0.

Craig Wellburn, Dan Lockerby (penalty), Darren Bryceson, Simon Kirk and Josh Peacock hit the target before the changeover.

Gavin Lynch and Dale Muir completed the rout.

FC Longtown conceded their tie with Green Bank.

Joiners Arms progressed 4-2 at the expense of St Aidans and Royal Scot went out 6-3 at Spinners.

In a reduced league programme the Second Division clash between Upperby Park and Walkabout turned out to be a thriller with the sides sharing 10 goals.

Callum Johnston whacked in a great shot from outside the box to put Upperby in front but Walkabout responded through Chris Kelleher only for Mark Graham’s overhead kick to put Upperby 2-1 up at the halfway stage.

Walkabout drew level again Martin Carr’s cross finding Kelleher lurking at the near post.

Veteran Les Armstrong restored Upperby’s advantage only for Kelleher to pull it back to 3-3 with Carr again the provider.

Armstrong’s penalty following handball by John Paul McCann put Upperby back in the driving seat but an error by keeper Shane Williams left Ryan Swailes with a simple finish to make it 4-4.

With only minutes remaining Armstrong completed his hat-trick to put Upperby ahead for the fifth time only for Damon Henderson to produce a dash down the wing and centre for Swailes to save the day for Walkabout with the last kick of the match.

In the only Third Division game played Howard FC gained their second win of the season 2-1 over second placed Lloyds enabling them to move away from the relegation zone.

Steve Taylor shot them ahead and Lloyds leading scorer Dan Towers countered from the penalty spot.

Taylor was brought down in the box and picked himself up to hit the winner from the resultant penalty.

A good team performance earned BSW Timber their fourth successive Fourth Division victory against a determined Border Reiver side.

Man of the match Paul Fiddler, Daniel Jeffrey and Liam Barnard shared the goals in their 3-1 success.

Jordan Pritchard-Farish netted for the losers.

The clash between Stanwix Crown and Thompsons FC ended goalless.
