Two Workington Town stars are set to hit career milestones against York City Knights on Sunday.

Club captain Jason Mossop and experienced forward Alex Szostak have both been racking up the appearances over lengthy careers.

If he features in the League 1 Supers 8s clash at York, Mossop will reach a career milestone of 250 games in his testimonial year at Derwent Park.

While Szostak needs one more game to reach 200 in his career.

Town chairman Garry Mounsey was quick to congratulate the duo ahead of hitting their marks.

"Jason has played over 223 games for Workington and it’s fitting that he reaches a career milestone of 250 in this his testimonial year," said Mounsey.

"As our club captain he is a leader on and off the pitch and I’d like to thank him on behalf of the club for spending the majority of his career here at Town."

As well as the 223 games for Workington since 2007 he also added nine games at both Sheffield and Batley, plus seven at Doncaster and one for Castelford.

"Alex has been with us since 2014 and is a highly valued member of the team here," added Mounsey.

"He is very experienced and has played for his country 17 times. To reach 200 games in his career is a great milestone and he is passing on his significant experience to our younger team members and players who’ve made the step up from the community game.

"He’s a great fella to have around the club and we’d like to congratulate him on this achievement."

Szostak, a former Scottish international, has played 34 games for Workington since 2014, and was previously with Sheffield for 148 games, between 2008-2013. He has also represented Scotland 17 times.

Former Town star Jarrod Sammut is also set to hit a major milestone, needing 22 points to reach 1,000 in the British game.

Sammut, now with London Broncos, bagged 293 of those whilst at Workington with 34 tries, 77 goals and three drop-goals during 2015-2016.
