Workington Town club captain Jason Mossop expects the familiar faces in Barrow’s side to add extra spice to Sunday’s crunch derby clash.

Raiders boast a number of ex-Town players in their ranks, with Jarrad Stack, Brett Carter and Tom Walker among those who have played for both clubs.

And Mossop admitted it will make for a fiery derby atmosphere when the two sides meet on Sunday.

He said: “Any derby game is always one you want to be involved with. It gets physical and means a lot more to certain people and the crowd.

“Barrow won the League One Cup and are going really well in the league. They have got quality all over the park.

“It’s going to be feisty playing against a few friends and it’s always good to get one over each other.”

Town’s promising start to the Super 8s has left them in contention for a top-five finish and Mossop wants his side to believe they can make the play-offs.

“You’ve got to go into every game confident because, if you don’t, it shows out on the park,” he said.

“It’s helped us getting players back from injury because you can’t hide that we’ve got a small squad.”

To still be in with a shout of the play-offs with three games to go, has pleased Mossop, but he admitted there was an element of wondering what might have been had they not surrendered leads throughout the season.

He said: “We lost a lot of players in the off season so, to do as well as we have is nice, but it’s also disappointing because we’ve lost quite a lot of games which we should have won.

“You could probably say the only games we came off deserving to lose were the Toronto games and York away.

“Other than that, we’ve been in there every game.”
