Workington Town prop Marc Shackley is aiming to see out the season in style by making his 150th career appearance at Halifax.

And the 27-year-old says his side do not want to finish bottom of the pile in the Championship and will be going all out for the win, building on last week's victory over high-flying Bradford.

Following on from the news of Sheffield's problems, Shackley admitted that was an added incentive to all the players.

"The Sheffield news is a big incentive to get a win, as long as we can finish above Whitehaven," said Shackley.

"At the end of the day, all we can do is go out there and get the win and the rest will sort itself out.

"Nobody wants to finish on the bottom, so whatever happens, we want to finish with a win.

"We don't know what is going to happen but we can put ourselves in the right position if it becomes possible to stay up."

Shackley says the win over Bradford was a huge boost for the injury-stricken squad.

Their relegation to League One next season was confirmed ironically with a defeat at the hands of Sheffield but now the latest news over the Eagles' future has put everything in doubt.

"Obviously the result we had at the weekend was very good. Not many people expected us to go out and do that," added Shackley.

"And now we need to go and get another win this week.

"I think a lot of pressure was off us last week and we just went out there to play our last home game with a smile on our faces.

"We really had a go, which we have all season but it just clicked for us.

"Bradford are a big club and to get the win was massive.

"I always thought we could do it and we played so well."

Shackley has played 139 games for Workington in two spells at the club, alongside 10 for Whitehaven. And he will rack up 150 at Halifax.

He added: "It is a great marker for me.

"To keep playing in a sport like we do and hopefully I can rack up a few more."
