Workington Town have parted company with head coach Dave Clark.

The club directors and Clark have come to a mutual agreement and Clark will not lead Town into action for the 2018 season.

Town chairman Garry Mounsey indicated that they have parted on good terms and that he hoped to keep supporters informed as they go forward.

Mounsey said: "Firstly I’d like to thank Dave for all of his hard work and endeavours in what was always going to be a challenging rebuilding season for the club.

"We’d like to thank him for his assistance in helping to rebuild the club on and off the pitch. We part on good terms and he goes with our very best wishes."

And Clark, who joined Workington back in October last year as they looked to start a rebuilding process in League 1, wished the club success as they move forward.

He said: "‘I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the coaching and back room staff, and the club chairman and supporters.

"We hit our top eight target this season and I’m obviously disappointed that we couldn’t finish what we started but the club is taking a new direction and I wish them all the success in the future."

Mounsey said the club now has to look to next season and another League 1 campaign.

He added: "This season the board has stabilised the club finances and brought down a previously significant wage bill to sensible proportions, brought in some real local talent from the community game, worked hard on engagement with the community clubs in our area and significantly improved our media presence.

"Myself and the board will spend the next couple of weeks continuing to plan for the future and we’ll keep our fantastic supporters appraised of progress."

Town finished the Super 8s in the last berth, and a 56-6 defeat at the hands of rivals Whitehaven in the final game of the season was a disappointment to many.

Town will now look to appoint his successor in the immediate future so they can begin their preparations for 2018.
