Workington Town hope to confirm a trio of signings in the coming days as they continue to rebuild for the new Kingstone Press League One season.

Town chairman Garry Mounsey said things had gone “pretty much” to plan since the club’s relegation from the Championship and believes they are in good shape after Jason Mossop, Alex Szostak and Carl Forber committed their futures to the club last week and the fixture list for the 2017 campaign was released.

He said: “The board decided that relegation was a chance to look at how we could do things differently and we set out on a structured plan for the close season.

“We had to secure our targeted players for re-signing at the same time as we went through the process of appointing a new coach.

“Hopefully we’ll add to those shortly.

“Our director of rugby Les Ashe is now working with Dave Clark to sign up the rest of the squad.”

Mounsey said a strong core of experienced players was now in place and the club’s targets were looking promising but added sound financial planning was important to ensure success on and off the pitch.

He also praised the balance of continuity and fresh ideas brought by the recruitment of Clark’s coaching assistants and conditioner.

Mounsey confirmed the club will hold a fans forum in the near future where Town’s current state and long-term plans will be laid out in detail.
