Workington Town face yet more injury woes as Phil Veivers’ battered battlers count the cost of another defeat.

The coach faces having yet more of his squad on the treatment table after going down 54-12 in a top-versus-bottom clash at Leigh.

Leigh ran in nine tries at the Sports Village to extend their unbeaten run to 17 matches and preserve their three-point lead.

Workington trailed 24-0 at half-time but scored second-half tries through Jason Mossop and Perry Whiteley, both goaled by Jarrod Sammut.

It’s a defeat that has also led to Veivers having to assess the fitness of winger Theerapol Ritson and full-back Jack Murphy.

Both were forced from the field, resulting in a makeshift right edge. But, amid the problems, the boss found solace in the way that Declan Hulme performed as he stepped in.

Veivers said: “We had Karl Olstrum on the wing and Matty Gee in the centres with Liam McAvoy into the right back row, so our whole right edge was made up of forwards. It was always going to be a problem.

“We are having it tough injury-wise.”
