In an entertaining game, where momentum swung back-and-forth, Jarrod Sammut was the difference with a hat-trick of tries and a raft of goals to put the Bulls to the sword.

Veivers lavished praise on the stylish scrum-half but said it was a team effort that had produced the win, not any individual.

He said: “This game’s mental, isn’t it? The shackles were off a little bit, and the pressure.

“We had Jarrod on song today and he was able to work his magic.

"He’s a great player but he’s only one of 17 that won that game. He couldn’t do it by himself and our big fellas laid the platform for him.”

The winning margin could have been more comfortable had Town capitalised on some excellent chances and if Theerapol Ritson’s second-half try had stood.

And Veivers admitted he would enjoy his night after a draining game.

“We had a try chalked off which I wondered why, and still do,” said Veivers.

“But I’m over the moon with the result in our last home game of the season and it’s something for the fans to savour.”

Veivers lamented his side’s injury woes and said it was a case of wondering what could have been if a bigger squad was at his disposal.

“It’s been a struggle all year,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s been a time when we’ve had less than five players sidelined and that’s frustrating.

“We probably needed another four or five players. And you never know – if we had had them, we might not be in this position.”
