Workington Town coach Phil Veivers was very disappointed to return to west Cumbria after failing to end London’s unbeaten Championship home record.

Following the 50-28 defeat, he said: “We were well in control at 12-6, but then we terrorised ourselves.

“It was that 15-minute period of the first half which cost us the game.

“You can’t give a team like London so many chances to score.

“We spoke at half-time about forgetting the first half and starting from scratch. We wanted to make it more of an arm-wrestle,” he added.

“I think we did that quite well. But, in the end, the game came down to our mistakes.

“We showed what we could do when we got to their end and scored those two late tries.

“I think we deserved those scores and it was much more than consolation scores to make the game look closer than it was.”

Looking forward to the visit of Bradford next week, Veivers said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“They have a new coach and they lost at home to Dewsbury today, so they will be looking to bounce back.

“Every game is tough and the Bradford one is no different. They have a very big bunch of forwards.

“It has shown this season that on the day any team can beat any other team and some of the scores have shown that.

“I don’t think we picked up any injuries today which is a good thing.”
