Defiant Workington Town prop Marc Shackley says they are out to drag their rivals back into the relegation dogfight.

Town begin their Super Eights campaign at Oldham on Sunday and a win would see their opponents drop to within reach, just one point away.

And Swinton, Dewsbury and Sheffield will also be looking over their shoulders as Town look to continue their 'Great Escape'.

"The lads are on a roll," said Shackley. "We have put in a great team effort to get the last three wins that we needed and Sundays' game is even bigger.

"A win will bring Oldham right back into it and we are trying to drag every team back as much as we can now."

Town, following their three wins on the belt end, finally moved off the bottom of the table, leapfrogging local rivals Whitehaven in the process on points difference.

"It is there for us now," said Shackley. "We have done a lot of hard work to get to where we are now but it is by no means over.

"These are the games, against the seven teams around us, and we have got to really stick in."

Shackley says the win against Whitehaven, with 12-men, was a huge inspiration and the team now have the self belief required to dig themselves out of trouble.

He added: "That win against Whitehaven set it all off. Self belief goes a long way and gets you through games.

"We were up and down against Oldham but we came back and everyone stuck in together.

"We have had a few injuries but everyone in the squad has stood up and had a go."

Town were back in training last night after a week off to allow the players to recover from any slight niggles ahead of Sunday's trip to face the Roughyeds.

And Shackley warned they would have to be on their guard against Oldham who are also fighting to stay in the Championship next season.

"They are good on their own pitch," he admitted. "It is on a slope and they know how to use it.

"They also have two good hookers who we will need to keep an eye on."
