Initially it was thought that the Workington Town star could have a grade two tear after he limped off the field against Dewsury last Sunday.

And coach Phil Veivers is waiting to see if he will be without one of his star forwards for the end of season run-in.

“He heard a pop when he picked the injury up which doesn’t sound too good,” admitted Veivers. “The initial prognosis after the game was that it was a grade two hamstring tear.

“That could mean he is out for four to six weeks which could spell the end of his season.”

The only bright spot on the horizon for Veivers will be the return of Karl Olstrom, who has served a two-match ban.

The forward was dismissed in the last derby against Whitehaven after striking Dave Allen in the first half.

“I will be pleased to see Karl back after his suspension and that will put us back up to 18 going into the last five games,” added Veivers. “All the players bring something different to the table for each game and I am sure all the boys will put their hands up again to have another dig on Sunday.”

Veivers insists his side will not be looking past Sunday’s game, where a win could push them out of the relegation zone.

He added: “I am just concentrating on getting the lads to get out there and put a performance together. If we can do that then the results will take care of themselves.

“If we win this game then that will put us in a great position to take on Swinton the following weekend.”
