Pride and intensity are key to keeping Workington Town up in the top eight, declared coach Dave Clark.

Despite losing to League One leaders Toronto Wolfpack at the weekend, Clark was immensely proud of his battle-weary players.

The side had to play without any substitutes for the final 20 minutes after injuries struck but Clark says that just knitted the squad tighter.

“We had no subs for 20 minutes yet they all still kept going,” said Clark.

“I was really proud to say I was a part of this squad. Now we’ve got four games to go and we really need to bring the same intensity that we had against Toronto.

“If we can bring that in those four games, then I think we can do some good to finish this year off.”

Warrington loan signing Joe Ryan came off with an ankle injury while prop Phil Joseph (hamstring) and centre Joe Hambley (quad) also had to leave the field.

Clark admitted he would have to monitor the injury situation closely during the week ahead of Town’s trip to Coventry Bears on Sunday.

“We will have to have a look at all the injuries and then get ourselves ready for Coventry,” he added.

“It is going to be a massive game for us to stay in touch and stay in that top eight where we want to finish.”

Perry Singleton was one of the stand-out performers against Toronto, both at loose-forward and when moved into the centres.

“Perry started off in the middle and he went out in the centre and scored a nice try again,” added Clark.

“He seems to always score tries when he goes out in the centre.

“That’s probably been his position over the years but I think for us he really works hard in the defence in the middle and really gels us together.”
