New signing Stuart Howarth will have his first run out in the blue and white of Workington Town tomorrow.

Howarth is set to make his debut in Town's pre-season friendly at Huddersfield Giants after joining up with the squad this week.

And director of rugby Les Ashe believes he will be a big boost to the young squad.

"Stuart trained on Wednesday night for the first time and got to meet his new team-mates," said Ashe.

"Dave Clark was pleased at the way he fit in well and he comes across as exactly what we hoped for.

"He is very experienced, a good organiser and a good talker, which is the type of player that will help the young lads through this season.

"He said he had enjoyed it and was looking forward to another session tonight and then dusting the cobwebs off against Huddersfield."

The Giants have named a mixed squad to play Town with a smattering of first team squad members and some youth players.

Eleven members of the first team squad will feature with forwards Oliver Roberts, Nathan Mason, Daniel Smith, Matty English, Adam O'Brien, Tyler Dickinson, Mikey Wood and Liam Johnson likely to involved.

They will be joined in the backs by Gene Ormsby, Sam Wood and Darnell McIntosh. The remainder of the squad are products of the Giants Academy.

Dave Clark will select a 20-man squad, giving another opportunity to the amateur trialists at the club to impress.

But they will be without experienced prop Kris Coward and half-back/hooker Jamie Doran, who are both unavailable.

"It will be a good test and it gives our community players a chance to have another run out," added Ashe.

"It will be a great experience for some of them to play at the John Smith's Stadium. And I believe Huddersfield have marketed the game really well, so there should be a good crowd.

"This is the last chance for some of these lads to impress ahead of the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy and the last week of their trial will be the iPro Sport League One Cup.

"By then, we should have a more settled side and we will see who we will be signing and who we will continue to monitor."
