Workington Town forward Liam McAvoy declared no motivation is needed for the players to take to the field against Whitehaven on Sunday.

McAvoy, who will be available for selection after serving a one-match ban, says this game is crucial to their hopes of avoiding the drop.

And he says the players are determined to claw their way back up the Championship.

"If we win this game then we are only two points behind them and that is our season back on track," said McAvoy.

"This is a huge game for all of us. The lead up to the Whitehaven game is always a big week and nobody needs any extra motivation."

McAvoy said he was delighted with last weekend's victory over Dewsbury Rams, which he watched from the stand.

"It was great watching the lads get the win and get a bit of confidence back," he added.

"I was gutted that I wasn't playing with them but I was so chuffed for them.

"There has been some problems at the club lately so it was good to get something positive."

McAvoy says the performances of Marc Shackley, Tom Walker and Tee Ritson were key to the win over the Rams.

And he indicated that Sunday's clash with Haven will be another battle in the middle of the park.

"I thought we were on top for most of the game with Dewsbury but we just couldn't finish it off," he said.

"I thought Tom Walker and Mark Shackley took us forward really well and Tee Ritson was class bringing us off our own line.

"We are going well in the middle and with Tom and Marc playing so well on Sunday I think we will be okay against Whitehaven.

"And that is where it is going to be won and lost in the forwards."
