Kind-hearted Workington Town star Jason Mossop will be supporting two local charities in his testimonial year.

Mossop, who has just signed a new deal to keep him at Derwent Park, was granted a testimonial by the RFL for 10-years service to Town.

And he is planning a series of fundraising events, running from January through to the end of the year, which will support his chosen charities.

This week he announced he will be backing West Cumbria Carers and the Copeland Occupational and Social Centre.

COSC, which runs daycare centre in Maryport and Cleator Moor, caters for people aged 18 and over with disabilities.

WCC is a local charity, which provides support for adult and young carers.

Mossop was keen to give something back to the community following his years in the game.

He said: "Since I was awarded my testimonial, I have made it clear I want to use this opportunity by helping support different charities.

"Being able to support West Cumbria Carers and COSC allows me the chance to give something back into the local community and help those who need it."

And he admitted he had to make some tough choices after he received a number of applications for various charities.

"It was really difficult to choose from the many great applicants," he explained.

"I have chosen these charities because after I looked into the work they do and saw the amount of lives that benefit from their help, I thought they were amazing.

"Any extra help I can provide will hopefully benefit them, as I'm aware they do a lot of their own funding."

"Hopefully, throughout the year, I can support some amazing people in any way possible and it allows me to learn more about these charities," he added.

"I'm under no illusion, at the end of the day, whatever I do is nothing in comparison to the work the amazing people carry out on a day-to-day basis for their charities."

Mossop and his testimonial committee are hoping to have a number of events with guest speakers, a golf day, plus testimonial games and more to be confirmed.
