Gloucestershire All Golds boss Lee Greenwood says they will be heading to Workington on Saturday hoping to put up an improved performance.

Gloucestershire competed with Workington for much of last weekend’s League One encounter, before going under to a late Town flurry 54-22.

Greenwood praised the sharp instincts and talent in the Town side but said he hoped the All Golds could pull off a win in Saturday iPro Sports League One Cup quarter-final at Derwent Park (kick-off 2.30pm).

“It is not the strongest Workington team I have ever seen but there are some smart players in there,” he said.

“And that’s what we don’t really have as a lot of our lads are new to the game.

“I think when it came down to it, natural instinct kicked in at the back end of the game and our lads don’t have that because they haven’t played since they were seven or eight years old.

“I don’t think it was down to fitness as we have worked hard on that and they didn’t look fitter than us.

“It is just about natural instincts and the understanding of the game that we can struggle with.”

Greenwood had his players back in training this week to prepare for their second long trip up to Cumbria in seven days.

“We will train hard again and come back up and hopefully give a better account of ourselves,” he added.
