Boss Dave Clark says Workington Town need to learn from their disappointing League One Cup exit at the hands of Gloucestershire All Golds.

Town came out of the blocks slowly and were 18-6 down at half time. And, despite a mini revival, they could not keep it up and crashed out to a 30-22 defeat.

Clark said: “I know the players are hurting, but we needed something like this to make us learn from it.”

Town had looked as though they would come back when they levelled matters and then edged ahead. But mistakes crept in and they handed back the lead to the All Golds.

“At the start of the second half, we were a bit more direct, made a lot of yards up the middle, which gave us a bit of an opportunity on the edges,” added Clark.

“Then, we had four sets with a dropped ball and we gave them inspiration.”

Town must now put the loss behind them as they prepare for a big game at Barrow on Saturday night in the league.

Clark, a former Barrow coach and player, says his team will go to Craven Park with a fresh mindset.

He added: “It’s just another game, we aren’t looking at anything differently.

"We have to learn from today, there were some big questions asked from individuals and so I’m hoping we now realise that we can’t start games like we did today or last week or the week before and try to get a win.”
