Strong-running Workington Town forward Macauley Davies will miss Sunday's big derby clash with Whitehaven after being banned for one game.

Davies was due to be up before the RFL disciplinary panel this week to face a charge of a Grade B high tackle in the game against Barrow on September 3.

But the player, on loan from Wigan Warriors, evoked his early guilty plea and was handed a one match ban.

Town coach Dave Clark admitted the talented youngster would be a big miss against Whitehaven at Derwent Park, ko 3pm.

"Macauley is a strong and tough player," said Clark. "He comes from Wigan so we know his mentality and he has a lot of good attributes.

"He is a good professional both on and off the field and it was great to see his passion to play for Workington this year.

"We have enjoyed his company and he has helped us achieve where we are this season. It is a shame he will miss the last game."

Former Seaton prop Tom Curwen is also out of action through a shoulder injury but Clark said the remainder of the squad were up for selection.

And although the outcome of the match won't greatly change either side's season, Clark said there was still plenty to play for on derby day.

Haven are guaranteed a top three finish to give them a home tie in the play-offs while this will be Workington's final game of the season.

"Hopefully we can get a good performance and finish the season off well," said Clark.

"Whitehaven have secured a top three position so this is just a local derby for both teams really.

"They are already through to the play-offs but we will both want to finish the season on a high.

"This is always a good game and we want to give the spectators a good show."

The game will also mark the retirement of long-serving Haven winger Craig Calvert.
