Derek Townsley’s side went down in Derbyshire as they lost for the second game running.

A Kyle May own-goal and a Bradley Grayson penalty put Buxton 2-0 up and Scott Allison’s late strike wasn’t enough to save a point.

Simpson had his own penalty saved during the game with his side two goals down after being given spot-kick duties by the management team.

Simpson said: “It was disappointing at the end of the day, but it’s one game and it’s not the end of the world.

“We were poor in the first half, that was clear, and Derek Townsley and Dave Hewson were not happy about how we went about it. The penalty was a personal responsibility and I did not make the most of the chance.

“Penalties are a bit of a lottery. I tried to hit it low and hard and the keeper managed to keep it out and I’m sure if I take another penalty I can get it right.”

Tuesday’s result leaves Reds in 12th place with Buxton top of the standings after four matches.

Reds are on the road again this weekend as they travel to Sutton Coldfield Town before hosting Blyth Spartans on Bank Holiday Monday.

Simpson added: “We’re always looking to win, which is what we do with every game.

“We’re disappointed not to get any points from the last couple of games, but we’re starting to play more as a team with that fluidity.

“Defensively we were poor and gave away two cheap goals on Tuesday.”
