Workington Reds are still waiting on international clearance to welcome back their former skipper Dan Wordsworth.

Wordsworth signed on deadline day last week after returning from Australia and linking back up with his former club. But without the clearance, the defender is still cooling his heels on the sidelines.

“He is training with us but we are still waiting to get his clearance through,” said Reds joint-boss Lee Andrews.

“Unfortunately, there is no timescale on it – it could take one week or it could take three or four, it all depends on how busy they are.

“Obviously we want him involved as soon as possible as his experience will definitely add things to our squad.”

Andrews says Wordsworth has received a warm welcome and he is settling back in at Borough Park.

“He knows most of the lads anyway and this is an easy group to come into,” added Andrews. “The lads are all welcoming and I have no worries about him settling in.”

Reds lost 2-1 at the home of Coalville at the weekend and slipped further away from the play-off zone but Andrews says his side will be focused this week when relegation battlers Ilkeston head to Workington.

“It’s a tough one as we don’t really know what went wrong last weekend,” said Andrews.

“We didn’t start well and we were lethargic but this is a new week and we will prepare the same as we always do.”

Reds will still be without the injured Anthony Wright and suspended James Earl for the clash at Borough Park on Saturday.

But Rob Wilson came through his return unscathed last weekend at Coalville and he will be back pushing for a place in the starting line-up.
