Striker Scott Allison may have bagged two goals at the weekend but it was his workrate that earned praise from the Workington Reds management team.

Co-boss Dave Hewson couldn't speak highly enough of his star centre-forward, who has been a key part of the team for several years.

Hewson declared he was happy to see Allison on the scoresheet but praised his 'phenomenal' workrate for helping push the team to success.

"Scotty, for me, put in a brilliant performance, His workrate was just phenomenal," said Hewson.

"It might sometimes go unseen on the terraces but it certainly doesn't go un-noticed by us and his team-mates.

"He makes a huge difference to this team, it was brilliant to see him on the scoresheet twice and that does wonders for his confidence.

"It is good to see him getting the rewards but it is his workrate, which is always 110 per cent, that really stands out."

Allison bagged two late goals in Reds' 4-1 victory over Rushall Olympic in the league on Saturday, with Matty Douglas and Nathan Waterston also on the scoresheet.

And, at the opposite end of the field, Hewson was also full of praise for his back four, that nullified the Rushall attacking threat.

"Our back four were everywhere, they really gave us the foundation for our attacking players to work on," added Hewson.

"I thought Gari Rowntree and Dan Wordsworth in particular were outstanding, for the last month I think we have really seen the best of Dan.

"But it was typified for me when, at 4-1 up, Gari was rattling into tackles on the halfway line and still wanted it more than them.

"For me that's pleasing to see that and it rubs off on the other players.

"When your senior players are doing things like that it sets a good example for everyone else."
