Midfielder Rob Wilson is hoping to be Workington Reds' match-winning hero again today when they take on Stafford at Borough Park (kick-off 3pm).

The former Kendal star struck a superb volley on Tuesday night to secure a precious 1-0 win at home to Ashton United.

The goal was just his second of the season, with his only previous strike this term coming against Frickley in August.

The stunner against Ashton also saw him equal his goal tally for last season.

Wilson said: "I'm really pleased.

"I've not scored many so to score one like I did on Tuesday was great and I'm really happy I scored a goal like that.

"I don't think I'll ever score a better goal than that. Hopefully, I can score again today but I will try to help us get the win."

The first team squad trained on Thursday night but injured trio Gari Rowntree, Joe McGee and Anthony Wright will sit today's match out.

Rowntree is closing in on a first team return and is hoping to play at least 30 minutes in the County Cup against Aspatria on Tuesday.

The management trio hope to have James Earl back after he missed Tuesday night through illness.

Reds start the day in 11th and have games in hand on all the current top seven teams.

Opponents Stafford are sitting in 18th position but have won their last two games.

Rangers were in the National League, formerly the Conference, as recently as 2008 and were promoted last season to the seventh tier.

Wilson added: "Stafford are a good team and have some good players.

"It will be a tough test but we're at home and we seem to do alright at home and hopefully we'll get the win and see them off.

"Confidence is the main thing for us and to play well.

"Hopefully, we can carry that on and pick up more points and climb up the table."
